Pressure is most useful when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation
Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.
Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.
Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.
Wind
Wind direction and strength can change how exposed a location feels, especially around open water, beaches, piers, and headlands.

Reading the wind
Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.
Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.
Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.
The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine interpretation
Marine observations point to a reasonably fishable sea state.
Marine caution
Higher waves suggest a conservative approach, especially in exposed areas. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 11.80 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.
Water temperature
Water temperature is around 13.2 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Hypothermia is a real risk, particularly if you become immersed in the water. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.
Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Reported species
Kilcunda reports span a broad range of species, with Bluefin Tuna, Australian Salmon and Black Bream.
Location-level reports can still vary by season, access and reporting source, so read this as a local guide.
Based on local Getfished fishing report species data.
* Note that report summaries will sometimes display the same species under different names. This is because they are being reported that way. This is intentional.

Kilcunda is best known for surf fishing, with a long exposed surf beach that can produce Australian Salmon, Tailor and, at times, Gummy Sharks. It is close enough to Melbourne for a day trip, although the area also works well for an overnight stay when you want time to fish different parts of the coast.
There are three quite different fishing options around Kilcunda:
Each fishes differently, so it is worth deciding what sort of session you want before heading down.
From Black Head, below the caravan park, to the Powlett River is roughly nine kilometres of open beach. Australian Salmon and Tailor are the usual targets, although sharks can turn up in the surf as well.
The beach changes with swell, current and weather. Productive gutters and deeper holes can appear, shift or disappear over time. A useful starting point is to look from the dunes or old rail line before carrying gear onto the sand. Darker water, breaks in the whitewater and channels running out through the surf can all point to deeper water.
One well-known area is near the cemetery, sometimes called the Blue Hole. It has produced salmon and tailor over the years, but it is not the only worthwhile section of beach. The better option can change after a run of rough weather or a change in sand movement.
A longer surf rod, adequate sinker weight and tough bait are useful here when the current is running. Pilchards, bluebait, squid, whitebait and fish strips are all practical choices, while paternoster and running-sinker rigs can both suit the conditions.
Black Head offers a different type of fishing, with Leatherjacket, Luderick, Australian Salmon and Tailor among the species anglers may encounter.
It is also fully exposed to Bass Strait. Conditions can change quickly, and the rock platforms are not suitable for casual or poorly prepared fishing. Wear a life jacket and suitable rock footwear, keep well back from the wash, and never turn your back on the ocean. The forecast marine and wind sections above are useful context, but they are not a safety clearance.
The Powlett River provides a quieter alternative to the surf, with estuary fishing opportunities closer to the township. It can suit anglers looking for bream, salmon and other estuary species without needing to fish the open beach.
The river mouth and surrounding waters can change substantially depending on sand buildup, rainfall, and whether the entrance is open to the sea. Treat it as its own location rather than simply an extension of the surf beach.
Kilcunda is a location where weather and exposure matter. A pleasant-looking day can still produce difficult surf, strong sweep or unsafe rock conditions. Check the wind, swell, tide and marine outlook before leaving, then reassess the beach when you arrive.
The fishing forecast above can help with timing and general conditions. The local knowledge that matters most is still visible on the day: where the gutters are, how much water is moving, and whether the beach or rocks are safe enough to fish.
No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.
Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
