Pressure
Pressure is most useful when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation
Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.
Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.
Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.
Wind
Wind direction and strength can change how exposed a location feels, especially around open water, beaches, piers, and headlands.

Reading the wind
Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.
Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.
Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.
The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine forecasts are guidance only. Conditions can change quickly on exposed water.

Marine interpretation
Wave readings indicate conditions that should remain manageable for many anglers.
Marine caution
Higher waves suggest a conservative approach, especially in exposed areas. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 6.50 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.
Water temperature
Water temperature is around 12.2 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Hypothermia is a real risk, particularly if you become immersed in the water. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.
Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Williamstown fishing goes back to the early days of Melbourne. Located on Port ferguson-street-pier/Phillip Bay right around the corner from the mouth of the Yarra River. It offers a wealth of piers and fishing opportunities. Plus it’s right next door to the heart of Melbourne.
Major Piers include Gem Pier and Ferguson Pier. There are several other piers and walkways you can explore.
Fishing sees species such as Pinkie Snapper, Snapper and Flathead. Not to mention the Bream and Barracouta.
In other words, some pretty awesome fish species to be sought at Williamstown – right in close to the city!
Nearby to Williamstown – technically in the suburb of Newport – is The Warmies. This is an excellent spot for land-based fishing. The Warmies is technically located in the suburb of Newport. But people tend to call the area around the shoreline there Williamstown because the boat ramp is named that way.
Upstream from the awesome Yarra River Estuary, the Maribyrnong River flows into the Yarra. This provides a significant estuary with excellent flows and a variety of fish species – including mulloway.
The area is partially composed of industrial and marine industries. Of note is the naval dockyard.
Williamstown pier is a great fishing spot for people in the west or inner city, but I find it’s not that near me to make it a personal favourite.
Having said that – don’t let my northeastern suburban Melbourne location put you off because a lot of folks fish the area with great success!
Admittedly, I do fish the area, however. Normally heading down to the Warmies, sometimes known as The Hotties, which is a personal favourite.
Williamstown Boat Ramp is one of the better boat ramps in Melbourne, having been upgraded in recent years.
Sometimes the naming can get confusing, with some people referring to it as “Newport Boat Ramp” because it is actually in the suburb of Newport, which is right next door.
It’s located in the same location as the famous Warmies beloved of land-based anglers.
If you’re fishing Williamstown for Bream and Squid, then fish light. You don’t need heavy lines and lots of lead here. The current in Hobson’s Bay is minor unless the wind is really blowing.
During a blow, some excellent snapper models can come in close. Making Williamstown Fishing pretty exciting. At those times you’ll need a heavier line and some extra lead.
The area is well worth fishing. Williamstown is not too bad for families for the most part.
No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.
