Fishing Tide Times, Solunar, Reports
Today's Mornington Pier fishing forecast looks quiet overall, though the best solunar period may still offer a short window of activity. Because of the moon being overhead, the bite time currently forecasted offers potential for increased fish feeding activity. Low light conditions may improve feeding activity.

Tides
Next tide
The tide is rising across Port Phillip Bay as water levels move towards the next high tide.

Pressure is most useful for fishing when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation
Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.
Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.
Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.
Wind
Wind direction and strength can change how exposed a location feels, especially around open water, beaches, piers, and headlands.

Reading the wind
Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.
Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.
Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.
The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine forecasts are guidance only. Conditions can change quickly on exposed water.

Marine interpretation
Wave readings indicate conditions that should remain manageable for many anglers.
Marine caution
Moderate waves call for more margin, particularly in open or exposed water and smaller craft. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 8.6 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.
Water temperature
Water temperature is around 12.4 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Hypothermia is a real risk, particularly if you become immersed in the water. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.
Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Mornington Pier reports span a broad range of species, with Snapper, Squid and Garfish.
Location-level reports can still vary by season, access and reporting source, so read this as a local guide.

Today's sunrise is 6:55 am and sunset is 5:50 pm. As a general guide, the hour before and after sunrise and sunset are often among the most productive fishing periods. No high tide or solunar period falls within the sunrise or sunset fishing periods today, so the other listed bite windows may provide better timing guidance. The sea-surface temperature is 12.4°C, some species may be less active in cooler water.

Being a land-based location using berley is extremely important in order to bring the fish towards jetty and you.
Australian Salmon, Garfish, King George Whiting, Snapper and Squid can be targeted at the jetty during summer. Activity is strongest for these species during the warmer part of the year. Actual catches will vary according to temperature trends, localised weather and tides.
Garfish, Gummy Shark, King George Whiting, Snapper and Squid are a good choice for anglers to target during autumn. With the water temperature dropping the jetty provides an opportunity to concentrate on these species.
Australian Salmon, Garfish, King George Whiting, Rock Cod, Snapper and Squid are the species to focus on because Winter is when the water drops below 15c and this jetty is no different. Fish can be slower to bite with reduced activity levels. As always what you catch varies with the prevalent temperature trends, localised weather and of course tides.
Spring sees the water temperature begin to rise with Australian Salmon, Garfish, King George Whiting and Snapper becoming more active. Later in spring summer species such as Australian Salmon, Garfish, King George Whiting, Snapper and Squid begin to move into the area and can become more common at the jetty.
Mornington Pier sits on the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay on the Mornington Peninsula, about 35 minutes from Dandenong. It is a heavily used land-based fishing platform, with the main pier, harbour area, smaller pier and nearby rock wall all giving shore-based anglers different water to work. The pier is popular year-round, so space can be a practical factor, especially when squid or snapper are drawing crowds.
The water around the pier is varied rather than uniform. Reef and rocky ground sit alongside sand holes and weed, which makes location choice important. Snapper are a major target here from about September to December, with the western-facing rock wall near the start of the pier and the end of the pier facing Melbourne both worth attention. Dawn, dusk, tide changes, a west or south-west wind and a rising barometer can all matter when timing a snapper session.
Fishing tight to reef and structure can cost rigs, but it is also where the better snapper opportunities come from. Squid are a regular year-round option, especially around the inner harbour lights, moorings, weed and the smaller pier, with smaller jigs suiting the generally smaller squid. Garfish can be found around the harbour, including the shallower areas, the smaller pier and the first half of the main pier, but depth changes quickly, so float depth and small baits need regular adjustment. A light berley trail with a wet sand consistency can help attract garfish without feeding them heavily.
For snapper, hook sizes around 3/0 to 7/0 are suitable, with baits such as pilchard, silver whiting, squid, garfish, barracouta heads or sauries. A paternoster-style rig with cork or cut foam above the hook can help lift bait above rough ground and keep it cleaner around the structure.
No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fishing report derived species history.

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.
Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
