Pressure

Barometric pressure

Pressure is most useful for fishing when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation

Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.

Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.

Reading the wind

Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.

Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.

Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.

The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine interpretation

Wave: moderate Water: cold

Marine conditions appear manageable based on currently available wave readings.

Marine caution

Moderate waves call for more margin, particularly in open or exposed water and smaller craft. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 6.85 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.

Water temperature

Water temperature is around 11.9 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Hypothermia is a real risk, particularly if you become immersed in the water. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.

Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Werribee South Pier Fishing

Werribee South Pier sits at the Werribee River estuary, beside the Werribee boat ramp and close to the adjoining Werribee South beach. It is a land-based pier option with free, extensive parking and a comfortable fishing platform, with nearby family facilities including picnic areas, barbecues and a playground. Access is straightforward from Melbourne’s western side via the Princes Highway, but the pier can be busy on warm nights when both swimming and fishing activity increase. The nearby toilets are present but may be in poor condition, so they should not be relied on as a strong amenity.

The main [fishing factors](/https://getfished.fish/ at this pier are weed, river colour and current. From September through early December the area can be especially weedy, and the problem has been worse in periods without dredging. Heavy rain in Melbourne’s west can discolour the Werribee River entrance, which may slow bream fishing. Current can also move quickly at times, so bait control and rig choice matter more here than they do on a still beach. Flathead are present in the estuary, but the adjoining beach and exposed sand after dredging can be more relevant for them than the pier itself.

Fish the pier with the weed in mind before choosing a spot or rig. When weed is thick, both bait and lures can foul quickly, and a running sinker is less suitable because it is harder to keep clear of the weed. A paternoster may still collect weed at times, so a weedless approach is worth considering, particularly when casting lures. The pier gives access to habitat beneath and around the structure as well as water out from the platform, so it can be worth varying cast angles and distance rather than repeatedly dropping into the same weed line.

Light tackle is the most useful supported gear direction for this location. Mainline at or below 10 lb is appropriate, with a slightly heavier leader only where needed. The reason for staying light is practical rather than theoretical: the pier can fish slowly when conditions are off, and excess weight or bulky rigs can make the weed problem worse. When the current is moving or weed is heavy, choose enough weight and leader strength to stay in contact without turning the rig into an anchor for floating weed.

Can Getfished tell if fish are biting at Werribee South Pier, today?

No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.

Use this information to make informed decisions about where to fish, and to compare conditions across nearby locations. We hope you enjoy using Getfished to find your next great fishing spot!

🛈 Getfished Reporting Summaries Source

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.

Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
