Interpretation
Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.
Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.
Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.
Wind
Wind direction and strength can change how exposed a location feels, especially around open water, beaches, piers, and headlands.

Reading the wind
Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.
Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.
Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.
The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Lake Mulwala is a big, timber-filled lake on the border of Yarrawonga and Mulwala. It stretches for about 20km and has plenty of public boat ramps on both the Victorian and NSW sides, like Bundalong, Majors Creek, Hogans Road, the Yacht Club, Drain Lane, and Kyffins Reserve. Pick your launch spot before you go, since it’s not possible to fish the whole lake in one trip.
When you fish here, watch the water flow, depth, and how much timber is around. Fish move in response to factors such as irrigation outlets, the Yarrawonga Weir, the Murray and Ovens rivers, and seasonal changes in water flow. Fishing in water between 1.5 and 2.1 meters deep usually works well, especially if there’s some current near fallen trees, root balls, flats, channels, or weed beds.
Good places to try are the main river channel near Hogans Road boat ramp, the timbered areas around Kyffins Reserve, and the shallow flats at Bundalong. Spots near the Yarrawonga Weir and upstream towards Majors Creek are also popular because they often have moving water and underwater structure. These are all good places to start your trip.
Murray cod are the main fish people aim to catch here, but golden perch are also popular. Carp are a common, but generally undesirable by-catch. Don’t return carp to the water alive. It’s the law.
Cod season in Victoria and New South Wales usually goes from December 1 to August 31 each year. When cod season is closed, you can still fish for other species. Just avoid targeting cod and use smaller lures if you want to catch golden perch. If you catch a cod out of season, make sure to release it safely and follow the rules. The best places to fish are usually snags with a roof shape, some current, and nearby feeding spots.
Make sure your lure runs at the same depth as the water you’re fishing. Spinnerbaits work well in water from about 1.2 to 4 meters deep.
For Murray cod, good spinnerbait colours are bright chartreuse, purple, black, and white, usually in sizes from 1/2 oz to 1 oz. Hardbody lures in natural or green-and-yellow patterns, about 100mm to 150mm long, also work well for cod.
Golden perch usually go for smaller lures in gold, orange, or red, with 60mm to 80mm hardbodies and smaller spinnerbaits being best. Pick hardbody lures that run at the same depth as the flat or edge you’re fishing. A baitcaster setup with a 4-6kg rod, 30lb braid, and a 40lb leader is a good choice here because fish can quickly get into the timber.
No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.
Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
