Fishing Tide Times, Solunar, Reports
Today's Flinders Pier fishing forecast looks quiet overall, though the best solunar period may still offer a short window of activity. Because of the moon being overhead, the bite time currently forecasted offers potential for increased fish feeding activity. Low light conditions may improve feeding activity.

7 Day Tides
Today's Tides
The tide is currently falling
The tide is falling across Western Port as outgoing water reduces depth across its flats and shoreline areas.
Fish may move from draining flats and shallow edges towards channels, drop-offs and areas carrying food with the outgoing flow.
Strong tidal currents can occur in Western Port, while falling water may expose mudflats and restrict some shallow-water access. Check local conditions before fishing or boating.

Pressure
Pressure is most useful for fishing when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation
Pressure changes tend to matter more than the absolute value, especially when conditions are shifting.
Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.
Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.
Wind
Wind direction and strength can change how exposed a location feels, especially around open water, beaches, piers, and headlands.

Reading the wind
Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.
Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.
Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.
The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine interpretation
Current marine conditions suggest a fairly manageable sea state.
Marine caution
Higher waves suggest a conservative approach, especially in exposed areas. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 12 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.
Water temperature
Water temperature is around 13.3 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Hypothermia is a real risk, particularly if you become immersed in the water. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.
Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Today's sunrise is 6:56 am and sunset is 5:49 pm. As a general guide, the hour before and after sunrise and sunset are often among the most productive fishing periods. No high tide or solunar period falls within the sunrise or sunset fishing periods today, so the other listed bite windows may provide better timing guidance. The sea-surface temperature is 13.3°C, some species may be less active in cooler water.

Snapper and Squid can be targeted at the pier during summer. Activity is strongest for these species during the warmer part of the year. Actual catches will vary according to temperature trends, localised weather and tides.
Gummy Shark, Snapper and Squid are a good choice for anglers to target during autumn. With the water temperature dropping the pier provides an opportunity to concentrate on these species.
Australian Salmon and Squid are the species to focus on because Winter is when the water drops below 15c and this pier is no different. Fish can be slower to bite with reduced activity levels. As always what you catch varies with the prevalent temperature trends, localised weather and of course tides.
Spring sees the water temperature begin to rise with King George Whiting and Squid becoming more active. Later in spring summer species such as Snapper and Squid begin to move into the area and can become more common at the pier.
Flinders Pier is a long Western Port pier with land-based access to squid, whiting, leatherjacket, Australian salmon, flathead and other seasonal species. The pier fishes best when tide movement gives bait and squid a reason to push through the area, with early mornings, evenings and high-tide periods often worth checking against the day’s wind and solunar windows.
Squid are one of the main reasons anglers fish Flinders Pier, so bright squid jigs are worth carrying when the water is clear enough. Bait anglers commonly use pipis, mussel, silver whiting strips, chicken, mullet or similar baits depending on the target species. Soft plastics and small metal lures can also be useful when salmon, flathead or other active fish are moving through.
The pier has useful facilities nearby, including parking and public toilets, but boat launching is more limited. The local ramp is a sand ramp, and a 4WD may be needed depending on conditions. Treat wind, wave and water-temperature forecasts seriously around Western Port, especially from small boats or when fishing exposed sections.
Sand boat ramp may require a 4WD depending on conditions.
Exposed weather can make fishing uncomfortable or unsafe.
Western Port wind and tide movement can change conditions quickly.
Popular periods may be busy.

No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fishing report derived species history.

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.
Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
