Jarvis Walker Pre Made Rigs Review – 4/5 Stars
TL;DR
- Jarvis Walker pre-made rigs are quick, easy, and great for bait fishing.
- They save you time since all you have to do is attach the rig, add bait, and start fishing.
- The foam-block versions tangle less and you can reuse them after a quick rinse.
- They cost a bit more than making your own, but at around $4.95, they are still affordable.
- It is a good idea to keep different rigs for different fish, and you can add beads or skirts if you want.
- Overall, I would give them 4 out of 5. They are re convenient, affordable, and reliable enough to always have in your tackle box.

I use pre-made rigs all the time.
They’re just that handy!
While I occasionally use other brands, like the Black Magic Pre-Tied Rig range, I find the Jarvis Walker Pre-Made Fishing Rigs to be a perfect, inexpensive solution.
I say inexpensive. It’s true: tying rigs yourself is generally cheaper than buying them. When I say inexpensive, I mean it. Tying your own rigs is usually cheaper than buying pre-made ones.ten returns the lowest value on your time.
Programmers don’t write all the code from scratch every time we build software.
We use libraries, widgets, and all sorts of tools so we can focus on what the software needs to do.
This makes us more productive and helps avoid mistakes. I think tradespeople and other professionals can relate, since they have their own tools of the trade.
Pre-made rigs work for the same reasons. In fact, they’re often tied better than I could do myself.

Why Pre-Made (AKA Pre-Tied) Rigs Make Sense
- You can turn up to your fishing spot.
- Choose a rig for the species you’re targeting.
- Attach the rig to the mainline.
- Add bait or even a lure.
- You’re ready to fish.
You don’t have to tie a knot for every part of the rig, which is especially helpful with paternoster style rigs.
Plus, no guessing about hook sizes with pre-made rigs when targeting species. So they are very newbie-friendly. You don’t have to mess with leaders. Everything’s included, so you just tie one knot to attach the rig to your mainline.ine.

Another bonus is that you can use a snap swivel on your main line to swap rigs before you even leave home. That way, you don’t have to tie any knots while you’re out fishing.ing!
There are actually two quality levels of pre-made rig available on the market, made by Jarvis Walker. The cheaper version comes without the foam block that holds the rig together. You can find it in stores like K-Mart.
In my experience, the cheaper version isn’t tied as well and tends to twist more. This review is about the slightly more expensive version, which I think is better value for money.
The price difference is about a dollar, but I think it’s worth it—especially if it means fewer line twists.
I Keep A Variety Of Pre-Made Rigs For Different Species On Hand
I always keep a variety of Jarvis Walker pre-made rigs in my tackle box.
There are versions for each fish species. Snapper, flathead, bream, mullet, garfish, surf rigs, etc.
Pre-made rigs tangle or twist much less than the ones I tie myself. The small foam blocks they come with can be reused—just give them a wash before storing them.
Just wind the leader back onto the foam block. Snuggle the hooks in – and boom!
I love that because next time I need the rig, it’s ready to go with no tangles—just attach it to my line.
That’s really cool!
Pimp Up Your Jarvis Walker Pre-Made Rigs
More expensive pre-made rigs often come with lots of extras, like flashing, skirts, glitter, and more.
These increase their appeal to many fish species, like snapper and whiting.
I usually add some of these extras myself. Some Jarvis Walker pre-tied rigs already have glow beads, but I often add a few red and green feathers too.
To do this, I hold the skirt with real or artificial feathers on the hooks and wind some cotton around them. Lime green or red works well. I tie off the cotton with a small knot, then use a bit of superglue or epoxy to seal it and keep everything in place.
Works and presents extremely well.
If there aren’t any beads included, I slide them over the hooks and onto the leader, just above the hook eye. It’s best to do this before adding any skirts.
I haven’t tried these yet, but I’ll try to review them in the next few months.
These come with the skirts and extras already attached. They cost about twice as much as the standard rigs I’m reviewing here and compete with the more expensive Black Magic and Mustad rigs.
Definitely Keep Some In Your Tackle Box!
I recommend keeping some pre-made rigs in your tackle box because I’ve found them really useful. These days, I rarely tie saltwater rigs when I’m using bait—I just grab one of these.
At under five dollars each, Jarvis Walker pre-made rigs are often less than half the price of some other brands.
Sometimes I even use saltwater rigs in freshwater if the hook size and sinker are right. I’ve tried other brands of pre-made rigs at this price, and some are better than others.s.
Lately, I’ve noticed some brands are improving their rigs to compete, even adding foam blocks. Big stores like BCF and Anaconda sell these improved versions.
I’ve tried several brands but still come back to these. The only exception is the break-off rigs for gummies made by Sure Catch—they’re hard to beat and not available from Jarvis Walker. That rig is also great for bigger native freshwater fish like Murray Cod.
Though still, a Snapper or Whiting rig from the Jarvis Walker range can be just as effective.Jarvis Walker Pre-Made Rigs Review Conclusion & Product Rating
Pros
- Cost-Effective
- Good variety of rigs for specific species
- Rigs can be utilised on more than one species.
- Can be reused many times (wash clean after use)
Cons
- More expensive than tying your own
- Not all rig kinds available. Eg: No break-off rigs for Gummy Shark fishing
- Very occasionally you get a rig not tied properly (rare)
Summary
I use this product all the time because it’s quick, easy, and doesn’t tangle.
While I occasionally use other brands, like the Black Magic Pre-Tied Rig range, I find the Jarvis Walker Pre-Tied Fishing Rigs to be a perfect, inexpensive solution.
When I say inexpensive, I mean it. Tying your own rigs is usually cheaper, but as a programmer, I learned long ago that reinventing the wheel isn’t the best use of my time.
