Moon Phase and Fishing Reports: I Analysed Over 20,550 Victorian Reports, Here's What They Suggest
When over 20 thousand fishing reports are grouped by the moon phases present during their report week, what broad patterns show up?

Why Apps and Websites claiming 'scientific algorithms' are pseudoscience and should be taken with a grain of salt.
What most people think Solunar forecasts are and why they read them wrong. Hint: Solunar is a feeding signal. That is all...
Fishing reports are useful, but they become more useful when they are organised into patterns anglers can actually use.
How we generate fishing forecasts and how you can learn to take advantage of them.
Getfished was developed to provide reliable environmental forecasts, avoiding the assumptions and unfulfilled promises often found in other fishing forecast systems.
Here, the Getfished team shares our thoughts on fishing forecasts. We believe solunar forecasts are only part of the picture. Using several fishing reports instead of just one gives anglers a better resource.
Our approach is a bit different from most fishing forecast websites and tools. Forecasts and reports can only offer general advice. They can’t guarantee you’ll catch fish because there are many unknown factors at play.
It’s hard, and sometimes impossible, to know exactly what food a species is eating at any given time. Fish often focus on what’s available, like shrimp hatches for saltwater fish or mayflies for trout. You can sometimes predict these foods in general, like during summer, from December to February, but not exactly. So what happened yesterday, last week, or in the recent past? They are a lot cooler and more exciting, but not necessarily enough to make a judgment about which species to target and where.
That’s why Getfished gathers fishing reports over long periods and shows trends based on thousands of reports we’ve collected from around the web.
These trends can tell you much more about when a species might be active, which bait or lure has worked, and where to find them. It’s a team effort, with all the anglers’ reports coming together to reveal patterns.
