Why Apps and Websites claiming 'scientific algorithms' are pseudoscience and should be taken with a grain of salt.
What most people think Solunar forecasts are and why they read them wrong. Hint: Solunar is a feeding signal. That is all...
Fishing reports are useful, but they become more useful when they are organised into patterns anglers can actually use.
How we generate fishing forecasts and how you can learn to take advantage of them.
Getfished was developed to provide reliable environmental forecasts, avoiding the assumptions and unfulfilled promises often found in other fishing forecast systems.
The Getfished team want to express their views on fishing forecasts. We think that solunar forecasts are only one element of the equation. It is better for anglers to use a number of fishing reports rather than just one.
Our method is unlike that of most fishing forecast websites and tools since forecasts and reports can only give general advice and cannot guarantee that you will catch any fish because of the many unknown factors involved.
It is difficult, and at times impossible, to know precisely what food a given species is eating at any particular time. Fish tend to feed on what is available, for example on shrimp hatches for saltwater fish or on mayflies for trout. You can generally predict these foods, such as during the summer, from December to February, but not with exactness. As for what took place yesterday, last week, or in more recent times though? Although they are much more interesting and thrilling, they are not necessarily sufficient for deciding which species to aim for and where.
Which is why Getfished collects fishing reports over long periods and displays trends based on the thousands of reports we have gathered from all over the web.
This information can show you a great deal regarding the possible times when a species is active, which bait or lure is effective, and where to find them; it requires a collaborative approach since all the anglers’ reports have to be combined in order to identify the patterns.
We also have a DIY Fishing article which details the various projects we have carried out to improve our fishing and the mistakes we have made and which we have tried to learn from.
We also have our Fishing Tackle Reviews section in which we examine the products that we actually use. Whenever it is possible, we back up the products that we test or use by referring to real fishing data which we have collected.
